So you want to be a writer?
What it means to be a writer.
If you can string a few words together on a piece
of paper, you already are a writer.
If you photocopy that piece of paper, you already
are a published writer.
If you sell those photocopies to your friends,
then you are a commercially successful author.
What if you want more?
Are you driven to write? Do you have ideas just
struggling to get out? Can you describe the process of
creating your written words with phrases like:
"Opening a vein," or "Driven to
succeed?"
Do you have the guts to put what you write in
front of a commercial audience? Do you believe in what
you write enough to go head to head with seasoned professionals
in the most cutthroat market in the world? Publishers
often pay their readers and junior editors on a piecework
scale. So the quicker they can reject a manuscript and go
on to the next one, the more they get paid. A monthly
magazine may publish as many as 12 short stories a month
but will usually receive over 100 submissions a week.
Can you handle being paid poorly for your
efforts? Each of your words, every drop of your heart's
blood you squeeze out on the page, is only worth a nickel
to a mainstream publisher. For every successful author
with a Multi-Million Dollar contract, hundreds struggle
with a "day" job and hope for the "big
break."
What can we do for you?
We can put your treasured writings, those
precious bits of your soul, into the proper format. The
Publishing House's reader or junior editor won't be able
to reject your manuscript for cosmetic reasons.
As part of our basic price we offer a spell check
and light grammar check. Heavier editing carries a
heavier price, and ghost-writing requires special
arrangements.
We will help you target your writing at the
proper market.
We do our best to help you succeed because we care
about you.
There is no greater gift than the ability to create!
We have goals. We want to see our clients published. We want work. And, we
want to free our clients. No kidding, if a writer doesn't need us anymore, they shouldn't use us.
When we think a writer has learned everything they need to know, we push them out of the nest. I'm
an electronics specialist (a techno peasant) in my "day job," so I can find good cheap computers for
any of our clients who need them. All we ask is that our ex-clients keep us posted. We want to know
when they write something new, when they get rejections, and when they get the sale.
