LISTEN TO THE DIALOGUE

Dialogue is one of the toughest concepts for our clients to grasp. We have to develop our ear or our voices are mute.

In the real world, humans talk. This means, if the reader is to believe in the writer's world, characters must engage in dialogue. Dialogue brings the writer's world to life. It conveys emotion, background information, and the character's personality quirks. Nothing is more necessary to a story than good dialogue, but nothing can destroy the integrity of a story as quickly as bad dialogue. Readers know how people speak and, when confronted with clumsy bits of conversation, will ask, "Who talks like that?"
