The NTLM Error

You will receive this error if you do not have "Client for Microsoft Networks" installed on your computer. You must do a few things to get past the Windows NT Security scheme before you can even access your web pages. The following is a pictorial representation of the steps needed to allow you computer to pass your credentials properly to the server.

*Make sure you have your Windows 95/98 CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive prior to these instructions.

Step One

Check and make sure "Client for Microsoft Networks" is installed. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, then click the "Networks" icon. It will look similiar to the dialogue box below. If "Client for Microsoft Networks" is not listed in you network configuration, click Add, select Client and click Add, select Microsoft from the list of manufacturers and "Client for Microsoft Networks" from the protocols and click OK. This will install "Client for Microsoft Networks" on your computer. After you reboot your computer you can proceed to Step Two.

Step Two

Click the "Identification" tab and enter a name for the Computer Name and Workgroup fields. These can be anything you like and do not effect the login process, however, they do have to be filled in with something.

Step Three

Go back to the main "Configuration" window and hilight "Client for Microsoft Networks" and click the "Properties" button. It will give you a screen like below. Verify that "Quick Log On" is checked.

Step Four

You now click "Ok" to finish the setup. Your computer will ask to reboot itself after these changes, say "Ok".

Step Five

When your computer boots back up it may or may not ask you for your "User Login" & "Password". In the "User Login" field, enter the LoginID assigned to you for our servers. Leave the "Password" field blank and hit ok. If your system does not ask for the "User Login & Password" continue on.

Step Six

On your "Desktop", click on the "My Computer" icon. Then click on the "Dial-Up-Networking",
You will see the "My Connection" icon that you use to connect to our servers. You will need to hilight this with a RIGHT CLICK, choose "Properties" from the menu selection. You will see the following dialogue box. Choose "Server Types". NOTE: The Area code should be 228 now, not 601.

Step Seven

After you choose the "Server Type" button, the following dialoge box will appear. The "Log on to network" should be selected as indicated in the image below. This tells our server that you are logging into a network and allows your connection to be recognized by the server. NOTE: "Enable software compression" is not checked. This is a personal preference.

Step Eight

Select the "TCP/IP Settings" on the "Server Types" dialogue and set the fields to match the image below.

Final Step

Select "OK" on the "TCP/IP Settings" dialogue. Select "OK" on the "Server Types" dialogue. Select "OK" on the "My Connection" dialogue. Connect to our servers as usual.
