SOUTH MISSISSIPPI SPORTBIKE RIDERS
CALENDAR OF PAST EVENTS
Last Update: July 4, 2001

Jan 14: about
12 of us ran up to "raid" (hey...wait...we were invited!) the Goldwing Chilli Cookoff.
Man it was cold but we had a good time! Jim's ZRX1100 fell over (OOOPS, sorry I mentioned it, Jim!).
Jan. 27: going-away party for Rick (ZX9) a.k.a. "The Human GPS" up at Suz's.
Jan 28: Red Bluff TT #6(?). Cops got Ralph (he's glad he was on his cruiser instead of the Speed Triple that day!) and John crashes (ZX9). The group sees a human head on the road (gulp)...turn around to check it out...cops are there already.
Feb. 3: unveiling of the 2001 Triumph "Bonneville" & champagne party at Ralph's Shop
Feb. 3: going-away party #2 for Rick (ZX9) a.k.a. "The Human GPS" up at Suz's.
Feb. 4: 120 mile run: Hwy 15/Hwy 26/Hwy 57. Dave, Jim, Ralph, Eagle, Eric, Robbie, Bart & Josh. Josh claims to have gone 170 mph on his Bandit 1200 (hmmm...better check that speedo, dude).
Feb. 17: 100 mile run to Wiggins, MS. Dave, Jim, Rik, Eagle, Josh, Jeff, Kurt & Pat (Pat doesn't like McDonald's!). Speaking of Mad Cow...we made herds of cattle stampede more than once!.
Feb. 20: "Bike Night" at El McGuey's. Tons of us showed up and Suz got a belated birthday celebration.
Feb. 24: Overcast & windy. Dave, his wife Bobbie & Caleb hit the streets for in-town riding anyways. Took lotsa wheelie pics. Eventually Jim made it (got his carbs right)...Jeff tries but misses us.
Feb. 27: "Bike Night" at Sicily's Pizza (thanks Josh!). Cops everywhere (Mardi Gras night!). Somebody ran out of gas evading that roadblock (won't say who)!
Mar. 4: Windy but a fun day of snapping pics and taking video north of Vancleave. Jim, Dave, Pat & Jeff. Jeff lowsides at low speed but is not hurt. Bike gets damage to plastic and it's gonna be a few weeks before Jeff is back with us (we're waitin for ya, man!).
Mar. 6: "Bike Night" at El McGuey's on Hwy 90 Gulfport - homemade "hooligan" videos were shown featuring Jason, Jim, Pat, Dave & Jeff.
Mar. 10: Gangers Jim, Pat, Caleb, Eagle & Dave met up with two riders from Mobile (Rich & David D.). Pat got hassled by MHP who claims he saw us going 100+ mph on I-10. No tickets were written. Headed up towards Monroeville, AL (Jim didn't get home till 9 pm!)
Mar. 12: "Bike Night" at El McGuey's
Mar. 17: Gang members Jim, Dave, Mark and Suzanne tear up pavement on River Rd. till dark - Mark can't seem to "get it up" decently for the camera...but he almost goes over backwards once! Jim does his famous wave-to-the-camera while wheeling past at 50 mph. What's with the small flies?
These insects really mess-up a faceshield fast.
Mar. 25: Benefit Poker Run in Hattiesburg. Fine weather and a chance for us sport bikers to mix in with the Hawgs and Goldwingers. Good time had by all.
Mar. 31: Jim, Caleb and this guy named Shannon (on a CBR600) are doing the roads between here and Wiggins. They go into Grand Bear golf course road and Caleb and Shannon straighten a curve into the woods resulting in a minor crash scene even though Shannon is thrown over the handlebars. Neither is
hurt and the bikes are relatively ok. Jim calls Dave to bring his truck, because Caleb's bike has hydralocked (too much fuel in cylinder) and won't turn over. After Caleb's bike is loaded up, Shannon cranks up, heads out and crashes again on the same curve (he was pissed-off about the first crash, we guess). This time it was no "minor crash".
His bike's now a "total" mess...unfortunately Shannon himself seemed to be hurting pretty bad. Dave scooted Caleb's bike over and loaded the messed-up CBR into the truck as well. We should rename Grand Bear to Bike Killer Lane.
Apr. 1: Jim, Dave, Pat, Ralph, Jeff A., Jeff B., Bart and Eric take off for the bike races in Hub City. Unfortunately, Dave (who should know better) was riding the final ride on his bald tire and the sucker went flat on him in Wiggins, MS. Thanks to plug kits and fix-a-flat,
the ride did not bomb-out. However after a quick bite at the Sonic in Wiggins (see pics below), the group split up with Jim, Jeff B., Jeff A. and Pat re-routing their trip to the Red Bluffs and everyone else following Dave back to Ralph's shop. The weather was ideal!
Apr. 7: Jim, Ralph, Eric, Curt W., Kurt M., James Sansing, Mark and Suzanne go to the vintage car show at Bellingrath Gardens south of Mobile. We heard Jim did a giant wheelie while waving at this chick...only bad thing was he was blowing by so fast on that
rear wheel she never would have had a chance to give him her phone number if she had wanted to. Eric said the ride was really an enjoyable one.
Apr. 14: Jim and Curt blow across to Barracuda Motorsports in Ft. Walton Beach so that Curt can have his ignition map redone by Yoshimura. While they are at it, they dyno their bikes: the result is 131 hp for Curt's Gixxer 750 and 111 for Jim's ZRX1100.
Apr. 22: Jim, Ralph, Alan, Dave, Jason & his wife Shauntel, Michelle, Dick, Tam, Jeff, Caleb and Joe (TL1000) all met up with Mark and Suzanne at Red Bluff (see pic below). Great ride except Dave & Jeff got lost for 30 minutes and then Michelle dropped her Ninja 500 while at an intersection. The weather was great but our butts were sore by the time we made it home!
Apr. 29: Eric, Ralph & Jim Watson went on a "mighty fine" ride - they ran up Hwy 15 thru Wiggins and up Hwy 29 - as Eric says: "...nice long sweepers and no traffic. In for a cool one at New Augusta and back on the road for the trip south down Hwy 57 - also not much traffic, just enough to make it fun passing. It was a good spirited ride.
As the Chain Turns heard Jim Watson say 'Its not a big deal for me to get out, I ride everyday to work'."
May 6: Too many riders to name (around 15 of us!) headed down to Dauphin Island for the Vintage Bike Show. It was a great time and we saw lotsa REALLY OLD bikes.
May 11: Going away party for Pat at Dave's house. Lotsa people showed - great fun - but only a few were brave enough to try the moonshine.
May 13: Jim, Curt and Jeff did a Red Bluff run with a pit stop at Suzanne & Mark's where all five hooked up for the rest of the trip. Gixxer & 929 madness for sure!
May 15: "Bike Night" at El McGooeys...so many people are showing up these days, they don't have enough tables!
May 18: Curt & Jim race to Atlanta to see the bike races there.
May 20: Red Bluff Run - Joe, Pat, Michelle, Eagle and Dick. Joe loses it w/ his TL1000 on Hwy 587 (due to patch of oil in the road) and sustains moderately serious injury to his shoulder. Rider and bike should recover soon though. Keep yer chin up, Joe!
May 27: Red Bluff Run - Jim, Pat, Michelle, Kelvin, Curt, Kurt, Jeff , Mark, Eagle, Jason W. and some others make a run and most don't make it home till 9 pm. Dude from Louisiana named Lance low-sides in a curve and crashes his bike pretty well. A buzzard flies up and hits Jeff A. - he's alright but the buzzard died from the collision! Jeff has lately become the "animal killer" on his Suzuki 750!
May 28: Memorial Day Pool Party at Michelle's. Bike video, bike video games, food and a c-c-c-cold pool!
June 2: Jim, Kelvin and Jeff do a day ride up north of Wiggins and then down thru Silver Run (Hwy 53).
June 3: Jim, Kelvin, David G, David D. and Kurt M. do the "Agricola Run" to Leaksville...triple digit city all the way!!! David D. was on his brand new Busa and Kurt had his new ZRX1200. Great Ride! (where the hell were you, ERIC?)
June 16: Eric, Michelle, Curt, Jeff A., Brad TL1000 (below) & Jim rode up to Purvis & flagged down Mark & Suz as they passed the Shell station. Saw a hi-way patrol who flashed his lights and pointed his finger near Big Creek! Jeff didn't kill any animals.
June 17: Jim, Eric, Dick, Ralph, David Driver, Michelle, Curt, 4 new guys Brad w/ a TL1000 and his Girl or Wife on back-Paula, a guy Michelle knows from the wheel house bike shop Joe Lyons (on a 00 GSXR 750) a guy named Timothy (on a Katana 600) & Graham Heilig also GSXR 750 then also Mark and Suz. 6 got warnings for excessive speed. Also: a bull walked onto the road...scary!
June 23,24: Lotsa Riding...Sat. was a quick run for a few riders (per Jim)...and Sunday, Jim, David, Bart, Michelle and Eagle ran the roads towards Wiggins. Made some video. Also, a bunch of Triumphers (Ralph, Eric, Jim W. & Dick) also rode a separate ride.
