Huw Lloyd Langton: On the Move
The Album Cover
Last Update: Sept. 18, 1999
Huw Lloyd Langton , the former lead guitarist from Hawkwind released an effort entitled "ON THE MOVE" in 1997 which contains 12 tracks of bluesy guitar-stuff not unlike a mixture of Stevie Raye Vaughn and Bad Company. No Hawkwind synthesizer-stuff here...but don't fret (get it??)...the CD contains plenty of good ole' electric guitar R&B and rock & roll as well as a couple of neat instrumentals. The album is released by BMA and although not officially released in the USA, it is available (also see below). I include a downloadable clip of track 10:

The following is an excerpt from the CD's liner notes (written by Producer Bjorn Almquist):
Who can number both HAWKWIND, LEO SAYER, WIDOWMAKER and PRETTY THINGS among their previous gigs? Groups who contained musicians like Pete Becket (Little Feat), John Lingwood (Manfred Man), Ginger Baker (Cream), Steve Ellis (Love Affair) and Ariel Bender (Mott the Hoople)?
The answer is HUW LLOYD LANGTON and now he moves on with his new CD on BMA Records, quite logically entitled, "On the Move".
After starting his professional career in Germany in the late '60's, Huw returned to England and formed Hawkwind together with Dave Brock and Nik Turner and the next 2 years saw them recording their first classic albums which still to this day sell regularly.
The 70's also saw him working with Leo Sayer. A cooperation which gave him the opportunity to show his versatility as a guitarist, which included replicating the banjo part on Sayer's first hit, "I Won't Let the Show Go On".
Huw rejoined Hawkwind in 1979 and stayed with them for all of the '80's before concentrating on his solo career in the '90's.
And here it is, his new album. A collection of songs, written together with his wife, Marion. They all have the trademark of Huw's experiences through the years....."

Huw is scheduled to tour Scandinavia promoting the CD some time in May 98. Huw's wife, Marion has been instrumental in helping to develop this website. Marion has thoughtfully emailed me this text file on Huw's career history . Also, click on this text file on Huw's discography ! Check these two files out!
AN EXCERPT FROM A LETTER TO ME FROM MARION LLOYD-LANGTON:
(containing some neat and interesting biographical info on Huw & his personal life)
Huw was born in 6th February 1952 in Harlesden, London. The son of a pharmacist - they owned a chemist shop in Harlesden. His Dad was a Cambridge graduate who had been forced by his parents into the pharmaceutical world - he promised Huw he would not do that to him. Huw was allowed to choose his own career. Huw's musical profession started with an old banjo he found in the loft, he strung it with wool and pretended to make chords. He has never looked back. Other than guitars, his other musical love are drums and although he has never really performed live as a drummer, he can often be seen messing about on drums at rehearsals. Huw reminded me he did actually once play with Vera Lynn at a Hawkwind - Anti Drugs Convention in 1985 (her own drummer was delayed - so Huw got up for one number).
Web-author's note: It's appropriate at this moment to mention that the Lloyd-Langtons have been very active in charities. One of the most noteworthy and recent was the "Rock the Boat" Walk for the Homeless during 1997 where Marion along with others walked the Thames for 213 miles. They were accompanied by Huw, who piloted a support live-aboard boat, named the Greshan Cruiser. Each night, Huw would perform at a local venue along the way. All proceeds when to the Shelter and Homeless Network, an alliance of 30 homeless agencies. OK...back to Marion's letter!
We have two daughters, Kirsty and Louise. Kirsty is almost 16 years old. Louise had already left home when Kirsty was born. So really we have brought up two families. Huw has written instrumentals for both of them on his solo LPs. Our daughters are not musical at all! I think we probably put them off.
We have always lived in London - I originally came from Sussex, South Coast. We now Live in North London where we have been, close to M1 for over 5 years. We lived in the country for 7 years prior to this but found it too isolated. Huw likes being what he calls 'housed up' with people.

The Lloyd Langton Group is back together with original drummer John Clark and bassist Gerry Cunningham. The group has just finished their new CD "Strumentally" to be released Sept/Oct 99. A 20-date UK tour is being planned for Nov/Dec. On Aug. 20, "LLG" appeared at the Greyhound Inn in London. The next day, Huw headlined (solo acoustic) the Restore Festival in Oxford at Florence Park.
If you are interested in knowing if Huw ever finds the time and opportunity to get onstage with Hawkwind - then check out this site where Huw joins Hawkwind for a jam in July of 1997 at the Blackheath Concert Hall - a on-off benefit for the homeless.
