A Note About the Author -

Yep, it's me...Dr. Fred Deegen is an American Fisheries Society-certified professional Marine Fisheries Biologist , an accomplished Saltwater Fly Fisherman, Fly Tier and long-time Purveyor of Fish Tales.
Doc, as his friends know him, is a die-hard Texas Longhorn - Graduate of The University of Texas at Austin - where he earned his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences researching predator and prey relationships and studying mathematical population dynamics and the University of Southern Mississippi where he earned M.S. and B.S. degrees in Mathematics, Biology and German.
He authors Coastal Fishing a weekly fishing chronology that appears in the Mississippi Gulf Coast's Marquee section of Friday's Sun-Herald and also has contributed hundreds of articles to Mississippi Game and Fish, Mississippi Woods and Waters, Mississippi Outdoors and other fishing publications over the years. A resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast for over forty-five years, Doc can guide you to a successful fishing trip to our waters...
When not wading his favorite hotspot for speckled trout and reds or fishing the Carolina mountains for brook, brown and rainbow trout, Doc can be found on the sixth floor of the Eldon Bolton State Office Building in Biloxi acting as Deputy Director of the State's Department of Marine Resources.
Doc, his wife and daughter make their home in Long Beach, Mississippi, just a hop, skip and a jump from some of the best fishing along the Mississippi Gulf Coast...And yep, his wife actually still believes he's too Sexy for His Shirt...

"Fishing is the only sport where you can play the role of predator and prey -
all at the same time"
