Public Fishing Piers on the Mississippi Gulf Coast
For anyone who doesn't have a boat, fishing from a bank, pier or
jetty or wadefishing are all good options when there's twenty-seven miles of open, public
beach as is the case here along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Coast's dozen or so public fishing piers and front beaches are known for producing
excellent catches of spotted seatrout, red drum, flounder, Spanish mackerel, jack crevalle
and other gamesters that frequent coastal shallows.
Many of the public piers have also had low-profile fishing reefs
developed within easy casting distance. These oyster shell, concrete aggregate, or crushed
limestone structures attract finger mullet, shrimp, anchovies and other bait fish which,
in turn, attract the big boys that will put a bend in your rod most any summer morning.
A visit to the nearest fishing camp or bait shop for a bucket of live
shrimp and a fishing license, and you'll be ready to try your luck. Or you can try using
artificial baits like the popular Cocahoe Minnow. These soft plastic jigs will catch
most anything that swims, and they can be counted on for dependable front beach action...
