GT II Air Conditioning Installation

This is an updated (c.2001) r134 air conditioning system from International Air (ICE).

It IS different from the original system in the Bradley GTII assembly manual.

Primary and Secondary Condenser Coils, fan assembly, and tunnel mount bracket.

Front of the chassis tunnel/axle beam is where the manufacturer places this primary coil. With the GTII bumper mounts and gas tank, it will not fit.
Assembled primary coil , per manufactures instructions, with tunnel bracket (Black unit on fan shroud)
The tunnel mount CANNOT be used in the GTII with factory gas tank. there is not enough room.
Leave the bracket off and fabricate nose brackets as shown on the photos to the right . See end of this segment .
Bottom view of primary condenser WITHOUT bracket AND WITH GTII original nose bracket installed.

Prepared for mounting in the original GTII position - in the nose.

Front view of primary condenser.
Shows nose brackets installed on right and left. They were NOT in the kit parts.
See end of this section for details of bracket.

Bent sheet metal at bottom is the air scoop in the tunnel-mount version. This will be used to bolt the bottom of the coil to the back end of the nose.
Another shot of the bottom of the coil with all sheet metal assembled. The top of the photo shows the angled airfoil. This will be used to secure the rear of the unit to the bottom of the nose.

Photo of the evaporator unit and associated parts. Registers and hoses will not be used if the kit has the original registers and hoses. The 4-hole distribution grill cannot be used under the original GTII distribution grill. Leave it off and tie-wrap the case halves together for stability.

AC hoses and misc. parts included in the kit. All the necessary parts needed and then some...
Two hoses require final lengthening and the fitting must be bubble-crimped. Most auto parts stores can do this for you.

The original R-12 kit used clamps on the cut hoses. NOT WITH R134.

Another view of the lines with the compressor and mounting hardware.

Compressor mounts MUST be modified with some twin-carb and DFI units to clear linkage. The fresh-air duct and hose on the left side also needs an adapter to clear compressor.

The Primary Condenser fitted in the nose.
This must be done in two sections on an assembled vehicle:
First, slide the fan assy into the nose .
Next, slide the coil in under the fan and assemble the two with the four screws provided.
Finally, bolt the assembly to the nose at the bracket and the rear air foil.

Photo shows GTII front bracket mounted to fiberglass.

Final bolt down will have a rubber pad between the brackets and the fiberglass, as in the manual. You can make these.

The bumper tube bolts are where the dryer bracket will be mounted.

Photo of the unit showing the air hole cut in the nose.

I have placed screening in front of the coil. This MAY stop some damage from bugs and small rocks.
A closer look at the evaporator unit showing the case tie-wrapped together.  ( I have the original GTII distribution grill, regulators and air tubes, so I will not use the supplied distribution parts.)

Top left on the evaporator shows the expansion block in place. This connector is one that will have to be crimped. Enlarge the opening at the bulkhead of the body to allow passing the 90 degree fitting.
Picture shows AC controls mounted in dash. Shaft nuts must be countersunk due to thickness of dash fiberglass. Above controls are rockers for driving and fog lights, antenna override. AC air distribution duct panel mounted. Blower and evaporator are in pod behind panel. Wires are for fan and compressor. This is an original Bradley panel. Sub-cool condenser coil mounted on firewall. The original fiberglass insulation has to be covered. It may clog the coil.
High and low pressure lines routing to condenser through bulkhead into under dash pod. This access has to be enlarged above the original dimensions to accomodate the 90 degree fitting. Front fender well shows original holes for the old AC system. The new system routes the freon lines on each side. Passenger side has the #10 suction hose. Blue wire taped to line is the compressor clutch control lead. Rear fender well on passenger side routing the suction hose to the engine compartment.

Note the body brace added to provide support, preventing body sag.

This view shows the #8 discharge hose routed on the left side to the primary condenser coil.

Left side shows routing of discharge line between primary and secondary condenser coils.

Primary condenser coil prepared for dryer. The dryer will mount at the two bolts on the bumper tube next to the headlight bucket.

Heater tube (fresh air) adapter. Fabricated from PVC 45 degree fitting and ground to fit. Click PIC to ENLARGE.

Heater tube adapter fitted to doghouse cooler shroud. Compressor bracket is in bottom center.

ICE, Inc. - the supplier of this system. They were the supplier of the original Bradley supplied system.

GTII Primary Condenser Bracket for updated system
This bracket is from the original AC kit for the GTII. Photos are provided in the event that one has to be fabricated.
