The Lucedale City Park

On our trip out west in 2003, we saw a couple of small amphitheaters, one at Glacier National Park and the other at Ft Collins, CO.  I thought that our city park should have one also for concerts and other events.  I drew up plans for it and after several months, the city board approved it.  It has been under construction this summer. The local high school art classes will decorate and fire tiles for the stage and I will construct capitals for the columns.

.
The stage has been tiled with designs created by the Middle School and High School art students.

I have just finished carving the capitals for the columns. They are made of treated lumber with the end scrolls typical of Ionic capitals

Phase 2,step 2  of the Amphitheater, will be to tile the seats with student art, one seat a year.
The tiles are designed by Elementary, Middle and High School art classes.  At the end of the project some 2 years hence, we will have over 2500 tiles created by our students. This is the third year of tiles.

This is an example of the tiles created by the students.  They were told that they could create any tile the wanted, subject only to appropriateness of a public place

This is my artist conception of what the Amphitheater will look like when it is finished in 2010.

The Sons of the Confederacy wanted to donate a bridge for the park They hold an annual Civil Ware reenactment battle here.  They asked me to design the bridge for them.
