Address
Washington, DC
Dear Congressman (or Senator)_________________
I am writing on behalf of my _____year old daughter/son, who has epilepsy.
He/she is not alone. Over 2.5 million people in the United States have epilepsy.
Thirty percent of these people have uncontrolled seizures which do not respond to
current therapies. My child has uncontrolled seizures.
PERSONAL STORY (Keep to 2-3 paragraphs, so that entire letter is 1 page)
Parents across the country have joined forces to form Advocates for Epilepsy,
a grassroots effort dedicated to increasing research on epilepsy. Together, we are
asking that research dollars be increased from $55 million per year to $130 million
for fiscal year 1999.
There is a critical lack of funds available for epilepsy research today. We
desparately need these dollars for new research, new solutions, and more energy
in the field. The cost to our country of caring for these intractable patients
far outweighs the investment in research we are requesting.
I appreciate your help. The future of our children and generations to come depends
on this effort.
Sincerely,
