1999 - 2000 Season

October 9, 1999 @8:15 Tosca - Join the Gulf Coast Opera for murder on the Mediterranean. One of the most beloved operas of all time, Tosca, by Giacomo Puccini, comes to the Coast with its timeless tale of the beautiful heroine, Tosca, betrayed by the evil Baron Scarpia, who pays with his life for his lust and lies, but who, ultimately, costs Tosca her life as well. Featuring a fine professional cast with the lovely Ms. Linnie Garner-Mower, Mississippi Arts Commission Artist in Residence, in the title role and featuring tenor Alexander Kariotis of Chicago and baritone Patrick Jacobs of New Orleans. Maestro Steven Edwards of New Orleans will conduct. In Italian with English supertitles.

November 12, 1999 Cabaret Dinner - Experience A Night of Divas at the Great Southern Club in Gulfport as the Gulf Coast Opera hosts its fourth annual Cabaret Dinner. Enjoy a fine dinner overlooking the beautiful Mississippi Sound as well as superb entertainment featuring the young New Orleans Soprano Florence Presti. Your $50 donation goes a long way toward making Opera on the Gulf Coast possible. Tickets are available by calling the Opera office or by returning a check with your membership.

February 19th, 2000 @8:15 The Bel Canto Quartet - New Orleans Tenor Mario Taravella (The Three Tenors, 1998) returns to the Coast with this popular quartet, performing a variety of works from opera, broadway and the movies, including 'The Habañera' from Carmen, the duet from Bizet's The Pearl Fishers, Andrew Lloyd Weber's 'All I Ask of You', and many more. Come experience a night of Bel Canto (beautiful singing). Tickets are $17 for adults and $6 for students at the door.

March 18th, 2000 St. Patrick Goes to Hollywood - The Gulf Coast Opera's 5th Annual Drawdown and Supper finds the indefatigable Saint traveling to Hollywood! Movie music will be the entertainment and turkey the appropriate dinner entree. A $50 ticket admits TWO for food, entertainment and the chance to win $2,500.00 CASH!!! (you need not be present to win) PLUS $500 in other cash prizes, PLUS door prizes. At the Church of the Redeemer in Biloxi (DeMiller Hall).

April 15th @8:15 & 16th @2:15, 2000 The Mikado - Come to Titipu!! One of the most popular works of all time, Gilbert and Sullivan's comic masterpiece, The Mikado, returns to the Saenger stage, fully staged and costumed and featuring a fine cast of local performers. The performances will be conducted by the Opera's Artistic Director, Jane Long Hardin. Tickets are $22 for adults and $6 for students at the door.
