2002 - 2003 Season


Due to the renovation of the Saenger Theatre during our 2002-2003 & 2003-2004 seasons, the Opera anticipated presenting its performances at the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Gulfport at the corner of Debuys and Switzer Roads.

Our production of the light-hearted Gilbert & Sullivan comedy HMS Pinafore was presented there but we have regretfully decided to cancell our presentation of Puccini's tragic Madama Butterfly.

However be sure to look for some fun times with sunset fireworks cruises, our annual Cabaret dinner, a barn dance and other activities.

2002 - 2003 Season Completed


October 19th @8:15 PM & 20th @2:15 PM, 2002 H.M.S. Pinafore - This famous and typical Gilbert & Sullivan show caused quite a stir at its introduction with a none-too-subtle depiction of the head of Britain's Navy, who had no naval experience. W. H. Smith became known as "Pinafore" Smith; behind his back, of course. The wit and music of libretto and score keep this show on everyone's list of favorites. Come and see how the differences between "high and lowly" are resolved. Gilbert & Sullivan at their best. The performances will be conducted by the Opera's Artistic Director, Jane Long Hardin. Tickets are $20 for adults and $6 for students at the door. Open seating.

CANCELLED
April 29th @8:15 PM, 2003, one performance only Madama Butterfly - One of the best known and most loved operas ever. Puccini tells a story of a young Japanese girl, Cio Cio San (Butterfly), taken advantage of by the philandering British Navy Lieutenant Pinkerton. Amazingly beautiful music for such a tragic story. The performances will be conducted by the Opera's Artistic Director, Jane Long Hardin. Tickets are $20 for adults and $6 for students at the door. Open seating.
