Solar Eclipse - July 11, 1991

The photographs to the right were made in Mexico on July 11, 1991 by a Mississippi high school physics teacher using a Dobsonian telescope that used to belong to the rascal running this website. (I can't recall the teacher's name but he was doing coursework at Mississippi State University in 1990.)

It turns out that the scope had a longer focal length than either of us suspected at the time of the sale. That longer focal length was a factor in the decision process of which telescopes lug off to Mexico. Be as it may, I feel as though I had an ambassador in Mexico (the telescope) during the eclipse.

Months later, the teacher was back in Starkville Mississippi and when we bumped into one another he was running copies of this photographic montage. Five dollars got me a copy and hence the web page. (When I re-acquire the teacher's name, it will be added.)

06 July 2005 - Dr. John Guyton, of Ocean Springs, MS, came across this page today and has informed me that he was the teacher. Thanks Sir!
